IC Information
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Character: Fridtjof Djt-bidit
Canon point: Post 6.55
Canon intensity: Fantasy/Sci-Fi (I will stand on this hill and scream), generally rated T for Teen but can absolutely push towards the Mature rating. It comes with inherent warnings about catastrophic loss of life, imperialism/colonialism, body/cosmic horror, and I'd slap a warning for existentialism on there if it were me. Fridtjof's story comes with some overtones of abandonment but he's not like... broken up about it.
World information: Mostly medieval(ish) fantasy with wildly different levels of technology depending on where you are. The floating island in the sky has computers and enemies drop what are basically data discs sometimes (tomestones are Weird). The local empire has cars and a subway/train system. You cast spells but can also shoot someone. You get the picture.
Character biofacts: 65-ish (which is still pretty young for his species), trans male, Rava Viera.

About the character: Spoilers until up to patch 6.55 lie ahead.

Growing up in the Golmore Jungle, Fridtjof was a relatively curious child. He would run and play with the others and he had a peaceful life. When he declared himself male when he hit puberty no one batted an eye (other than 'why would you choose that, the women are in charge') and he trained with the Wood-warders quite happily. He learned skills with both bow and knife, learning to slink into the shadows and strike before fading back into them. He learned that he had a particular skill for avoiding trouble - or stepping in front of it for the sake of others if need be. What he didn't learn was much about the outside world - other than the Garlean Empire was the enemy and the lives of any of them who entered the Jungle were especially forfit.

But enter the jungle they did, alongside a young viera named Mykha. Fridtjof watched from afar as they entered the Orbonne Monastery and admired the way that they led their adventurer companions into the forbidden ruins and came out victorious over Ultima, a being that had been growing in strength deep within. Asking around he discovered that Mykha was no ordinary adventurer - they were known as the Warrior of Light, the one who had struck multiple blows against the Empire. Most of his people did not care outside of the effect to the Empire, but Fridtjof was fascinated. He decided there and then to follow Mykha out of the Wood - despite the knowledge that he would never be able to return.

He encountered Mykha in Kugane, having gone there to find a ship to where he had heard they were based. An Echo vision confirmed that they both had similar gifts - the ability to see into the past and understand languages they did not know. The Warrior took him with them back to Eorzea, teaching him the skills he'd need to known to survive outside of the Wood. By the time they landed in Limsa Lominsa, he'd grown even more fond of Mykha, having learned a bit about how to wield a sword and shield from them along the way. He pledged that once he was strong enough he'd become a free Paladin like them, and trained hard to live up to that. He also picked up conjury in Gridania, winning approval from the Elementals for his respect for nature. His abilities never were as strong as Mykha's, but he wanted to keep them safe and patched up.

Joining the Scions was an... Experience, because he'd never met so many people with abilities like him. It was relieving and overwhelming in equal measure, but he quickly gained a rapport with Arenvald, training alongside him and calling him 'Little Brother'. He attended the summit in Ala Mhigo where everything went wrong, but was security on the outside so he wasn't able to fight against Lakshmi. His life was about to take another turn, however, when he fell unconscious shortly thereafter.

The Crystal Exarch was... somewhat surprised when he grabbed Fridtjof. He was a Scion with the Echo, but not quite the Warrior of Light, so he kept trying. Fridtjof moved to the Rak'tika Greatwood, checking in on Y'shtola when she arrived and moved there as well but each doing their own separate business. The Vii in the Greatwood took him in (despite their massive confusion over his ways) and he lived with them for several years until Mykha showed up and collected him. He nearly tried to stab Emet-Selch when he showed up, having been told that the man was the source of the Empire that had threatened his home. Thancred actually had to hold him back, convincing him that it both wasn't worth it and that he wasn't going to win anyway. Even so, the rest of their journey in the First involved a lot of pointed comments and verbal barbs being thrown at Emet, and he was first to try to attack when Emet had his big dramatic standoff with Mykha near the end of it. When asked, he gave up the Light that he'd been trying to absorb to spare Mykha some of the load, though it left him with white freckles across his face as a symptom of Light poisoning. (His hair had also been turning white, but it quickly reverted once he gave it up.)

He returned home alongside the other Scions, his own body having been one of the ones in worse shape due to the length of his soul's departure. He waited anxiously for Mykha to return and busied himself with training while he waited. And when they did return he practically had to be peeled away from their side and pointed at the task at hand - the Telophoroi and the Final Days. He wasn't about to let the world that his hero loved so much get destroyed by some madman. In between tasks he did some freelance work like guarding caravans.

The events of Endwalker happened basically as depicted in canon, though with some extra snarking between Thancred, Fridtjof, and Estinien. He was very reluctant to head to Garlemald, but he did because, in his words, "we need an extra healer". (A-Ruhn-Senna also helped convince him to go, pointedly telling him that the Shroud and the Elementals would essentially kick him if he didn't.) He wasn't part of the group that went to the moon, but stayed with the rest to take on the Blasphemies. He did go with them to the Aetherial Sea and to the edge of the universe, stepping up with G'raha Tia and convincing Sir about the need to make your own identity despite what others might think, and the need to hold fast to the present and the future.

After they saved everything, he headed to the East to keep an eye on things there. He did travel to the Void alongside the rest of the group and met Zero, though he was stationed outside with Urianger when they returned there to keep an eye out for any voidsent that slip through the cracks. He ran in to help once more when they went to go rescue Azjda from Zeromus, very much Not Impressed when they saw Golbez' memories. He helped hold the line against the man while Mykha went to fight Zeromus, and once that was over he helped Krile and G'raha with some cases that required monster culling. When Wuk Lamat showed up he tagged along for the hunt and basically pointed at her and went "we're helping her". He went off to prepare to go to Tural and gather supplies and was basically super pumped for adventure before he got dragged to the Ship.

Overall, Fridtjof is a teasing but reasonable adventurer. He's got his buttons that get pushed (imperial conquests, disrespecting nature, etc.) but in general he remains a steadfast ally of the weak and a destroyer of those that would hurt the downtrodden. He might have be called a fool for some of his actions, but he'd rather be a fool than be an oppressor. He strives to be worthy of Mykha's approval but for everyone else? He doesn't really care if he's mocked, cast out, or otherwise looked at strangely. He doesn't enjoy fighting, but he will if he feels he needs to. His name means "warrior of the divine wind" and he will live up to it - gods as his witness, he will protect those in need.
Abilities: Paladin and White Mage abilities, both to level 90. He can basically quick-change between them when he's out of combat. He's also good with a knife and a bow (though doesn't have the relevant jobs leveled, leave me alone) as well as having basic survival skills (tracking, field medicine, dressing a carcass). He can channel aether when needed, though he's not book-smart so don't ask him how it works.

He also possesses the Echo, an ability that basically lets him have flashbacks from other peoples' lives (when near them or some sort of relevant item), understand all languages, and protects him from mental manipulation. His particular Echo manifestation lets him see where an attack is going to land - basically, he sees the attack markers. This gives him a very good grasp on combat, even if it doesn't always grant him the reflexes to not stand in the stupid.
Noteworthy items: Sword and shield (they glow and his shield has a bubble effect but it's pretty much cosmetic), staff, armor, robes, a knife, Paladin and White Mage job stones.
Mixed gender room ok?: Yes
Player content notes/squicks: Excessive bugs, needles, sexual assault.
